Gursharan Singh
Former Secretary General, Paralympic Committee of India
Gursharan Singh, a former national middle and long-distance running champion, has been a
cornerstone of the Indian Paralympic movement since 2010. Serving as the former Secretary General
of NPC India, he has been instrumental in drafting the Constitution and Bye-Laws of the Paralympic
Committee of India in 2016, later ratified by the IPC.
Under his leadership, India saw unprecedented success in para-sports, with historic performances in
the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2023 Hangzhou Para Games, securing 111 medals in Hangzhou and 19
in Tokyo. Singh played a crucial role in ensuring equal award money and job opportunities for
Paralympians, influencing government policies. He revitalized the marketing model for para sports in
India, enhancing sponsorship and financial independence, and ensured the inclusion of Paralympic
sports in CBSE curricular and NCERT books.
Additionally, he signed key MoUs with the Indian Army and the Ministry of AYUSH to support para-
athletes. Now, he has made it his mission to ensure that Indian E-Sports and online gaming athletes
gain international recognition and that India becomes a significant powerhouse in this field.
